(The first is mò plus hóu [máo]; the Shuowen says it is a qiumao spear, a type of dagger-axe; the Lüshi chunqiu states that Chiyou fashioned the five weapons, the spear being twelve feet long and set upon war chariots; it is a pictographic character; the sūtra writes it with 牟 as 鉾, which is incorrect. The second is shuāng plus zhuó [shuò]; the Gujin zhengzi states that a 矟 is also a spear, also called a hooked lance, eighteen feet long; it is today's halberd-lance; from 矛 'spear' with the abbreviated 肖 as phonetic; the sūtra writes it with 木 as 梢, which is incorrect).
