擇滅 (the first character pronounced 宅; the Erya says: "Ze means to select, choose"; the Shuowen says: "To choose; derived from 手 [hand] and 睪"; the lower character fanqie: 彌鼈; Kong's Commentary on the Shangshu says: "Mie means submerged, extinguished"; the Erya says: "To sever"; the Shuowen says: "To come to an end; derived from 水 [water] and 烕").
