瑇瑁（今作蝳蜎二形古文作𣫹瑁二形同音代妹異物志云如龜生南海中大者如𦼯蒢背上有鱗將欲煑之其皮則柔隨意所作也）。

瑇瑁 (Now written in the two forms 蝳蜎; ancient script written in the two forms 𣫹瑁; identical sounds: 代 [dài] and 妹 [mèi]. The Yiwu zhi says: 'Resembling a turtle, born in the South China Sea. The large ones are like winnowing baskets, with scales on their backs. When about to boil them, their skin becomes soft, allowing one to fashion them as one pleases.')
