埽帚（上蘇竈反博雅云埽除也說文從土帚聲經作掃俗字也下周柳反世本云少康作帚顧野王云帚所以掃除糞穢也說文從又持巾掃口內也經文從竹作帚俗字也）。

埽帚 (the first character is su + zao fan; the Guangya says: "埽 means to sweep away"; the Shuowen says it is formed with 'earth' [土] with zhou [帚] as phonetic; written in the sūtra as 掃, which is a popular variant; the second character is zhou + liu fan; the Shiben says: "Shaokang invented the broom"; Gu Yewang says: "A broom is an implement for sweeping away filth and dirt"; the Shuowen says it is formed with 'hand' [又] holding a cloth [巾] sweeping inside a vessel [口]; written in the sūtra text with 'bamboo' [竹] as 箒, which is a popular character).
