揩拭（上客皆反博雅云揩摩也說文從手皆聲下舒力反郭注爾疋拭所以清潔也鄭注禮記云淨也說文從手拭聲）。

揩拭 (the first character is ke + jie fan; the Guangya says: "揩 means to rub"; the Shuowen says it is formed with 'hand' [手] with jie [皆] as phonetic; the second character is shu + li fan; Guo [Pu]'s commentary on the Erya says: "拭 is that by which things are cleaned"; Zheng [Xuan]'s commentary on the Book of Rites says: "To make clean"; the Shuowen says it is formed with 'hand' [手] with shi [拭] as phonetic).
