苗裔（古文作[衣/凡]同餘制反說文[衣/凡]衣裾也以子孫為苗裔者取下垂義也裔亦遠也字從衣從冏音女滑反）。

苗裔 (The ancient-script form is written as [衣/凡]; it has the same fanqie *y[ú] + [zh]ì*. The Shuowen jiezi states: "[衣/凡] is the hem of a garment." Taking descendants as *miaoyi* derives from the sense of hanging down. *Yi* also means distant. The character is analyzed as semantic 衣 ('garment') and semantic 冏, which has the fanqie *n[ǚ] + [h]uá*).
