杖捶（下隹委反顧野王云棰以杖擊也國語云鞭捶使之說文云棰擿也從手垂聲擿音知革以或從臼作𦥻）。

杖捶 (The second character has the fanqie 隹 + 委 [chuí]. Gu Yewang says: 'To 棰 [beat] means to strike with a staff.' The Guoyu says: 'Urging them on with whips and batons.' The Shuowen says: '棰 means to strike (擿); it takes the hand [radical] and 垂 as phonetic.' 擿 has the sound of 知 + 革 [zhí]. It is also written with the mortar [radical] as 𦥻.)
