梟磔（晈堯反說文云[目/(巠-工)]即倒首字也賈逵注國語云斷首倒懸即梟字也下陟格反廣雅云磔猶張也史記云磔死於市也說文從石桀聲桀音𠃵烈反經作梟襟非也）。

梟磔 ('decapitating and dismembering'): The first character has the fanqie [j- + iao >] jiǎo and [y- + ao >] yáo. The Shuowen says: '[The ancient character] represents an inverted head.' Jia Kui's commentary on the Guoyu says: 'Cutting off the head and hanging it upside down is 梟.' The second character has the fanqie [zh- + i >] zhì and [g- + e >] gé. The Guangya says: '磔 is like spreading apart.' The Shiji says: 'Dismembered in the marketplace.' The Shuowen says: 'Composed of 石 with 桀 phonetic.' 桀 has the fanqie [j- + i >] jié and [l- + ie >] liè. The sūtra writes 梟襟, which is incorrect.
