犾犾𨷖諍 (The first two characters have the fanqie 魚 + 斤 [yín]. The Chuci says: 'Fierce dogs baring teeth (犾犾) and barking in greeting.' Gu Yewang says: '犾犾 is the barking of dogs.' The Kaosheng says: 'Two dogs fighting.' The Shuowen says: 'Two dogs biting each other; it is formed of two dogs.' It is also written with the speech [radical] as 狺, or with the ax (斤) [radical] as 㹞; the glosses and explanations are all interchangeable. The next character has the fanqie 兜 + 候 [dòu]. The Cang Jie Pian says: '鬪 means to contend (諍).' The Zuo zhuan says: 'Those who heard of it raised arms and fought against one another.' The Wenzi dianshuo says: 'Two warriors facing one another with weapons held behind them forms the shape of fighting (鬪); it is an associative compound formed of 斥 and 丮.' The last character has the fanqie 等 + 敬 [zhèng]. The Kaosheng says: 'Contentious speech.')
