婢媵（說文作𠊶同餘證食證二反爾疋媵送也謂送女曰媵公羊傳曰媵者也何諸侯聚一國則二國徃媵之以姪娣從也釋名媵承也謂承事適奉他也）。

婢媵 (The Shuowen jiezi writes it as 𠊶; the same. Two fanqie: 餘 + 證 [yìng] and 食 + 證 [shèng]. The Erya says: "媵 means to send forth." It refers to escorting a bride, which is called ying. The Gongyang zhuan says: "What is a bridal escort (ying)? When feudal lords took a wife from one state, two states would send maidservants to escort her, accompanied by nieces and younger sisters." The Shiming says: "媵 means to serve, referring to waiting upon and respectfully attending to another.")
