溝港 ('ditches and waterways'; the first character is pronounced with the fanqie 苟 + 侯. Zheng [Xuan's] commentary on the Zhouli says: "Conveying water into a river is called a 'gou' (溝)." The Kaogongji says: "Four feet wide and four feet deep is called a 'gou'." The Kaosheng says: "It also refers to water pouring into a ravine." The Shuowen says: "A 'gou' is a ditch; it is formed from [the radical] 水 with 冓—pronounced 古 + 候—as the phonetic component." The second character is pronounced with the fanqie 江 + 項. The Wenzi jilüe says: "A tributary stream." The Kaosheng says: "A branch of water that flows without connecting through; it is formed from [the radical] 水 with 巷 as the phonetic component").
