謇吃（上建偃反周易云謇難也方言云謇吃語澀也郭注云亦北方通語亦作謇古今正字從言𡨄聲經作蹇跛也非經義𡨄音僧則反下斤仡反聲類云吃重言也說文語難也從口乞聲）。

謇吃 ('stammering and stuttering'; the first character is pronounced with the fanqie 建 + 偃. The Zhouyi says: "'Jian' (謇) means difficulty." The Fangyan says: "'Jianchi' (謇吃) means halting speech." Guo [Pu's] commentary says: "This is also common speech in the north." It is also written as 謇. The Gujin zhengzi states it is formed from [the radical] 言 with 𡨄 as the phonetic component. The sūtra writes 蹇 ('lame'), which is not the intended meaning. 𡨄 is pronounced 僧 + 則. The second character is pronounced with the fanqie 斤 + 仡. The Shenglei says: "'Chi' (吃) means repeated speech." The Shuowen says: "Difficulty in speaking; it is formed from [the radical] 口 with 乞 as the phonetic component").
