With an adze (以斤): Ju and yin fan. The Shuowen says: 'Jin means an axe for hewing wood.' The Guoyu says: 'Jin means a mattock.' The Shiming says: 'Jin means careful (jin); when a plank is wide and cannot be pared, and has knots, one uses this jin to carefully make it smooth and erase axe marks.' The Vinaya text writes it as 釿, with the fanqie yu and jin; the Cang Jie pian says: '釿 means a hoe'; it also has the fanqie niu and yin; the Shuowen says: '釿-ji (釿劑, pronounced zi and sui fan) means shears.' 釿 does not have this meaning.
