厭禱（於𮉼反字苑云眠內不祥也論衡曰臥厭不悟者也江東音於葉反字從厂音呼旱反禱都噵反禱請也請於鬼神也廣雅禱謝也說文云告事求福為禱也）。

Nightmare and sorcery (厭禱: [厭 is pronounced] with the fanqie *yu* + *[xun]* [yàn]. The *Ziyuan* says: 'Ill omen while asleep.' The *Lunheng* says: 'One who suffers a nightmare in sleep and does not awaken.' In Jiangdong it is pronounced with the fanqie *yu* + *ye* [yè]; the character is formed with the cliff radical (厂) and pronounced with the fanqie *hu* + *han* [hǎn]. 禱 is pronounced with the fanqie *du* + *dao* [dǎo], meaning to entreat or pray to ghosts and spirits. The *Guangya* states: '禱 means to offer thanks.' The *Shuowen jiezi* says: 'Reporting matters and seeking blessings is called *dao*.').
