揵椎（梵言臂吒揵稚臂吒此云打揵稚所打之木或檀或桐此無正翻彼無鐘磬故也舊經多作揵遲此亦梵言訛轉也冝作稚稚音直致反但椎雅字形相濫故誤也）。

揵椎 (in Sanskrit, piṭa-ghaṇṭī [臂吒揵稚]. Piṭa here means striking. A ghaṇṭī is the wood that is struck, either sandalwood or paulownia. Here there is no proper translation, because in that [land] they do not have bronze bells or stone chimes. Older scriptures mostly write 揵遲, which is also a phonetic corruption of the Sanskrit. It should properly be written 稚; 稚 is pronounced zhí-zhì [直致 fanqie, zhì]. It was mistakenly written 椎 only because the characters 椎 and 稚 resemble each other graphically).
