說戒（古薤反戒亦律之別義也梵言三婆羅此譯云禁戒者亦禁義也廣疋戒備也周易以此齋戒韓康伯曰洗心曰齋防患曰戒字體從廾持戈以戒不虞字意也廾又作拜同巨龍反）。

說戒 (*gǔ-xiè fan. 戒 is also another meaning of vinaya. The Sanskrit word is saṃvara; this is translated as 'restraint' (禁戒), which also has the meaning of prohibition. The Guangya says: "戒 means to guard against." The Book of Changes says: "By this means one observes fast and restraint." Han Kangbo says: "Cleansing the mind is called fasting; guarding against peril is called restraint." The character structure takes 廾 holding a halberd 戈 to guard against unforeseen events; this is the ideographic meaning of the character. 廾 is also written 拜, same; *jù-lóng fan).
