威肅（相昱反孔注尚書云肅悚敬也又云嚴整鄭注禮記云戒也爾雅云肅肅恭也謚法曰強德克義曰肅執心决斷曰肅說文持事謹敬也從𦘒在𣶒上戰戰兢兢也肅然懼而巖敬也會意字也下從𣶒𣶒音恚緣反）。

威肅: Pronounced 相 + 昱 fanqie. Kong [Anguo]’s commentary on the Shangshu says: “肅 means fearful and reverent; it also means stern and orderly.” Zheng [Xuan]’s commentary on the Liji says: “It means vigilant.” The Erya says: “肅肅 means respectful.” The Shifa says: “Unbending virtue capable of righteousness is called 肅; holding to one's mind with decisive resolution is called 肅.” The Shuowen says: “Conducting affairs with care and reverence. It is formed from 𦘒 standing over 𣶒, trembling with apprehension; solemn in awe and reverence; an ideogram. The bottom is formed from 𣶒; 𣶒 is pronounced 恚 + 緣 fanqie.”
