災橫（上祖來反集訓云天反時曰災字書云天火也俱舍論云飢饉疾疫刀兵也說文從火巛聲巛音同上古今正字有物擁流會意字也下懷孟反韻詮云非理而來曰橫非禍至曰橫說文從木黃聲也）。

災橫: The first character is pronounced 祖 + 來 fanqie. The Jixun says: “When heaven goes against the seasons, it is called 災.” The Zishu says: “Fires of heaven.” The Abhidharmakośa-bhāṣya says: “Famine, epidemics, and warfare.” The Shuowen says: “It is formed from 火 with 巛 as phonetic (巛 has the same pronunciation as above).” The Gujin zhengzi says: “An ideogram depicting an object blocking a stream.” The second character is pronounced 懷 + 孟 fanqie. The Yunquan says: “That which comes without rhyme or reason is called 橫; when unexpected calamity arrives, it is called 橫.” The Shuowen says: “It is formed from 木 with 黃 as phonetic.”
