涉壙（上時葉反韻英云涉歷也考聲云涉渡水也古作[水*(止/少)*水]說文云徒行厲水也從步從水下苦晃反毛詩傳云壙空也廣雅大也考聲云壙埌音浪原野遠貌也經文從日作曠誤也或從心作懭或作懬遠也懭意失也似通）。

Wading through wild expanses (涉壙: for the first character, the fanqie is 時葉 [shè]. The Yunying says: '涉 means to pass through.' The Kaosheng says: '涉 means to wade across water.' Anciently written [水*(止/少)*水]. The Shuowen says: 'Walking on foot to cross water. It takes radical 步 and radical 水.' For the second character, the fanqie is 苦晃 [kuàng]. Mao's commentary on the Shijing says: '壙 means empty, vast.' The Guangya says: 'Great.' The Kaosheng says: '壙埌 [kuànglàng] describes the distant appearance of plains and open fields.' The sūtra text writes with radical 日 as 曠, which is an error. Some write it with radical 心 as 懭 or 懬, meaning vast and distant; or 懭 meaning frustrated in thought, which also seems plausible).
