牽引（上啟賢反考聲云牽連也廣雅牽挽也說文云牽引前也從牛從宀音緜玄聲也或作牽或作掔古字也下余忍反杜預注左傳云引導也賈逵注國語云引伸也爾雅引陳也說文云引開弓也從弓厂音曳聲也古文從扌音手從弓作㧈）。

牽引 (pulling along: the first character is [pronounced with the fanqie] 啟賢. The Kaosheng says: 'Qiān (牽) means to connect.' The Guangya says: 'Qiān means to pull.' The Shuowen jiezi says: 'Qiān means to pull forward; it derives from 牛 and 宀 [緜], with 玄 as phonetic.' It is also written as 牽 or 掔 in ancient characters. The second character is [pronounced with the fanqie] 余忍. Du Yu's commentary to the Zuo zhuan says: 'Yǐn (引) means to lead.' Jia Kui's commentary to the Guoyu says: 'Yǐn means to stretch.' The Erya says: 'Yǐn means to arrange.' The Shuowen jiezi says: 'Yǐn means to draw a bow; it derives from 弓 with 厂 [曳] as phonetic.' The ancient character derives from 扌 [手] and from 弓, written as 㧈.)
