變易（上兵眷反白虎通云變改常也化也說文從文從䜌聲也下盈益反說文象形字如蜥易一說云上日下月共為易總九畫陽之數也會意字也）。

變易 ("change and alteration": the upper character has the fanqie 兵眷 [biàn]. Baihu tong says: "Biàn means altering the constant; it means transformation." Shuowen says: "Composed of 攵 with 䜌 as the phonetic." The lower character has the fanqie 盈益 [yì]. Shuowen says: "A pictographic character, like a chameleon." Another explanation says: "The upper part is 日 [sun] and the lower part is 月 [moon], together forming 易, totaling nine strokes, the number of yang; it is an associative compound.")
