如燎(遼銚反周禮墳燭庭燎鄭玄曰墳大也地燭也樹於門外曰墳燭在於門內曰庭燎皆所以照眾為明也說文放火也從火尞聲尞音遼此上三字前經第九卷音義第一卷末已釋也)。
Like a blaze (如燎: the second is pronounced with the fanqie 遼銚 [liào]. The Rites of Zhou speaks of 'great beacons' (fenzhu) and 'courtyard torches' (tingliao). Zheng Xuan says: "Fen means great, an outdoor ground torch; set up outside the gate it is called a great beacon; placed inside the gate it is called a courtyard torch. Both serve to illuminate the crowd." The Shuowen says: "Setting a fire; deriving from 'fire' [火] with 尞 as phonetic." 尞 is pronounced liáo. These preceding three characters were already explained at the end of the first fascicle of Sounds and Meanings for the ninth fascicle of the previous sūtra).
