飢饉（上几冝反顧野王云人畜須食也穀梁傳云五穀不升謂之飢說文餓也從食几聲下音近爾雅曰蔬不熟曰饉穀梁傳云三穀不升謂之饉形聲字也）。

Famine and crop failure (飢饉; the first character is fanqie 几 + 冝. Gu Yewang says: "Humans and livestock in need of food." The Guliang zhuan says: "When the five grains do not ripen, it is called 飢." The Shuowen says: "Hungry; it takes radical 食 and 几 as phonetic." The second character is pronounced 近. The Erya says: "When vegetables do not ripen, it is called 饉." The Guliang zhuan says: "When the three grains do not ripen, it is called 饉; a phono-semantic compound character").
