Lamp wick [燈炷] (The second character has the sound zhu: that is, today's lamp core. In Western countries they often twist strands of white cotton cloth to make lamp wicks. Note: drawing oil to light a fire for brightness is called a lamp wick. Originally there was no such character; the translators of the sūtras coined it arbitrarily. It is absent from dictionaries such as the Jixun, Qieyun, Xinji ruyun, Yupian, Shuowen, Zilin, Zitong, and Gujin zhengzi.)
