New nonglutinous rice (新秔: the second character is pronounced *geng* [= *jīng*]. The *Shenglei* says: "Non-sticky paddy rice." Vulgar forms write it as 粳, which is incorrect here. It is derived from 禾 with 亢 as phonetic. 亢 is pronounced *gang*).
