Towering and luxuriant (聳茂: the first character is pronounced *xi* + *yong* [= *sǒng*]. The standard form is written with 立 as 竦; both 悚 and 竦 above are interchangeable. The second character is pronounced *mu* [= *mào*]. Gu Yewang says: "*Mào* means lush." The *Kaosheng* says: "Fine." The *Gujin zhengzi* says: "Abundant." It is derived from 艸 with 戊 as phonetic).
