Striking with rolled fists (the first character has the fanqie juan + yuan; the Mao Commentary on the Classic of Poetry says: "捲 [juǎn] means using strength; lacking force means lacking courage." The Shuowen says: "Forceful vigor; it takes hand [手] as radical and is phonetic in 卷").
