Porpoise (海狶): The second character has the pronunciation of 希; it is a popular variant. The standard form in the Shuowen jiezi is written with the swine radical (豕) as 豨. The Fangyan states that the people of southern Chu call pigs 豨; it also states that it is the sound of pigs running. As for the porpoise (海豨), it is a marine fish whose shape resembles a pig, hence the name 'sea pig'; it is also of the same class as the river dolphin.
