Short shoulder-strap [短襻]: (pa + man [pàn]). A pàn is the connecting strap inside a garment; all women's skirts and trousers have shoulder-straps that hang over both shoulders. The Wenzi jilüe states: 'A skirt cord.' The Kaosheng states: 'A garment strap.' The Gujin zhengzi states: 'A garment shoulder-strap, formed with "clothing" [衣] as radical and pān [攀] as phonetic; it is also written as 攀.'
