矸石 whetstone: the first syllable is han + gan fan [gān]. According to the text of the Sarvāstivāda-vinaya, ganshi is a grinding stone for pulverising medicinal herbs. In the vinaya text it is written with ‘clothing’ as 衦, which is an error.
