紛擾(上拂文反廣雅云眾也王逸注楚辭云芬盛貌也文字典說紛紜亂也從糸分聲下饒沼反孔注尚書云擾亂也文字典說煩也從手[憂-心+此]聲)。

紛擾 tumult and confusion: the first syllable is fu + wen fan [fēn]. The Guangya says: “Crowded.” Wang Yi’s commentary on the Chuci says: “Fen means a flourishing appearance.” The Wenzidian shuo says: “Confused and disordered.” Derived from ‘silk’ (糸) with ‘fen’ (分) as phonetic. The second syllable is rao + zhao fan [rǎo]. Kong’s commentary on the Shangshu says: “Rao means chaotic.” The Wenzidian shuo says: “Troublesome.” Derived from ‘hand’ (手) with ‘you’ ([憂-心+此]) as phonetic.
