Step with both feet [雙蹋]: The second character (tan + he [tà]) is explained in the Guangya: 'Tà means to tread.' The Cang Jie pian states: 'Tà means to stamp/kick.' The Shuowen states: 'To trample; formed with "foot" [足] as radical and [日/羽] as phonetic.' 踶 is pronounced tí; [日/羽] is pronounced tan + da [tà].
