俸祿（扶用反案俸與也膏米賜錢皆曰俸也祿福也案古者未有耕稼民食野鹿在事之人闕於田獵官賜以物當其鹿處後人因之謂為食鹿變鹿為祿者取其神福之義也）。

Official salary (俸祿) (fanqie: 扶 + 用. Note: feng means to bestow; giving grain and awarding money are both called feng. Lu means blessing. Note: In ancient times, before there was farming, people ate wild deer; when officials lacked the time to hunt, the government granted them goods to substitute for their deer. Later people carried this on and called it 'eating deer', changing 'deer' (lu 鹿) to 'emolument' (lu 祿) to evoke the sense of divine blessing).
