𰟚髭 (for the first character, x- + -ian in fanqie. This is the standard character. Zheng [Xuan]'s commentary to the Liji says: 'Submerging meat in hot broth.' It is also written with fire as semantic to make 爓, which is a popular character. The Boya writes it with 尋 to make 燖, which is the ancient character for 𰟚. Both the Yupian and the Kaosheng write it with [((嘹-口)-小)-日+(工/十)] to make [(((嘹-口)-小)-日+干)*(大/火)]; scribes mistook it, which is wrong. The Shuowen says: 'Scalding meat in boiling broth.' It takes 炎 as semantic and an abbreviated form of 熱 as phonetic. It is also written with 炙 and 㶣 to make 𤍙. In the treatise text it is written with 覃 to make 燂, which is a popularly used character. There is also the form written with flesh and 閻 as 𦢨, which is absent from both the Shuowen and Yupian; 爚 is pronounced y- + -ue, a popularly used character. The second character is pronounced zi. The Wenzi jilüe says: 'Hair on the upper lip.' It is also written as 髭. The Gujin zhengzi says: 'Beard above the mouth.' It takes 須 [beard] as semantic and 此 as phonetic).
