Perverse and intractable (很悷: the first is pronounced [痕 + 墾] *hěn*, a rising-tone character. Du's commentary on the Zuozhuan says: '很 means perverse.' The Guangya says: 'Resentment.' Zheng's commentary on the Liji says: 'Strife.' The Gujin zhengzi says: 'Disobedient. It takes the radical chì and the phonetic liáng.' In the treatise text it is written with rén as 佷, which is mistaken. The second is pronounced [禮 + 帝] *lì*. The Picang says: '悷 means 懍悷.' The Gujin zhengzi has the same meaning as the Picang. It takes the radical xīn and the phonetic lì; 懍 is pronounced [林 + 甚] *lǐn*; 墾 is pronounced [康 + 佷] *kěn*).
