Wrapping and pressing (纏壓: the upper character has the fanqie ch[è] + [l]ián; in the treatise text it is written as 纏, which is the character in popular common use. The Kaosheng says: '纏 means to wind around; to bind.' The Huainanzi says: 'Bound with red silk.' The Shuowen says: '纏 means to tie up; it takes mì as radical and chán as phonetic.' Chán has the same sound. The lower character has the fanqie [y]àn + [y]òng; Du's commentary on the Zuozhuan says: '壓 means to squeeze (笮).' The Kaosheng says: 'To weigh down.' The Shuowen says: 'To ruin; it takes tǔ as radical and yàn as phonetic.' Zhà has the sound zhé).
