鑒照（上監陷反考聲云鑑照也明也鄭箋詩云鑒者所以察形也尒雅鑒謂之鏡也說文云大盆也可以取明於水月也從金監聲）。

Mirror and illumine (鑒照: the upper character has the fanqie ji[ān] + [x]iàn; the Kaosheng says: 'Jiàn means to reflect; to be bright.' Zheng's gloss on the Shijing says: 'A mirror is that by which forms are observed.' The Erya says: 'A jiàn is called a mirror.' The Shuowen says: 'A large basin; it can catch the light from the water and moon; it takes jīn as radical and jiān as phonetic').
