隄䧜（上帝奚反蘇林注漢書云隄封萬井也韋昭云積土為封限也說文隄䧜也從阜是聲也下蕩郎反尒雅云廟中路謂之䧜也鄭箋詩云䧜當塗也許叔重注淮南子云䧜亦隄也埤蒼云長沙人謂隄曰䧜也考聲云䧜陪土為路也云隄也古今正字亦云隄也陂䧜也從阜唐聲論文作堤塘俗通用字也）。

隄䧜 (The first character has the fanqie pronunciation 帝 + 奚 [dī]. Su Lin's commentary on the Hanshu says that 隄封 refers to the boundaries of ten thousand wells. Wei Zhao says: 'Piling up earth to make a boundary.' The Shuowen says that 隄 means 䧜; it has the radical 阜 with 是 as phonetic. The second character has the fanqie pronunciation 蕩 + 郎 [táng]. The Erya says that the pathway in an ancestral temple is called 䧜. Zheng [Xuan's] Jian commentary on the Shijing says that 䧜 means 'on the path'. Xu Shuzhong's commentary on the Huainanzi says that 䧜 is also an embankment. The Picang says that the people of Changsha call an embankment a 䧜. The Kaosheng says that 䧜 means 'mounding up earth to make a path'; it means an embankment. The Gujin zhengzi also says it is an embankment or reservoir dike; it has the radical 阜 with 唐 as phonetic. In the treatise text it is written as 堤塘, which are commonly used vulgar characters).
