般闍于瑟（或作般遮于瑟皆訛略也應言般遮跋利沙又言般遮婆栗史迦般遮此云五婆栗史迦此云年謂五年一大會也佛去世一百年後阿瑜迦王設此會也自茲以後執見不同五師競分遂成五部或十八部也）。

Pañcavārṣika (般闍于瑟: also written as 般遮于瑟, both being erroneous abbreviations; it should be said as *pañcavarṣa* or said as *pañcavārṣika*; *pañca* here means "five", and *vārṣika* here means "year", referring to the great quinquennial assembly; one hundred years after the Buddha's passing, King Aśoka established this assembly; from this point on, their views differed, and the five masters disputed and divided, eventually forming the five schools or the eighteen schools).
