Holding a shield (執盾) (fanqie: 食尹 [dùn]; a shield is that with which one defends the body and shields the eyes; to shield oneself, it is formed from "ten" and "eye", being a pictograph with 厂 as its phonetic component. The treatise text writing it as the shùn of "railings and balustrades" [闌楯] is not the correct form).
