卜筮（時制反禮記龜為卜蓍為筮卜筮者所以決嫌疑定猶豫故疑即筮之字從竹從巫筮者揲蓍取卦析竹為爻故字從竹揲音食列余列二反）。

Divination by tortoise shell and yarrow stalks (卜筮) (fanqie: 時制 [shì]. The Liji says: "The tortoise shell is for bǔ, and the yarrow stalks are for shì. Divination by tortoise and yarrow is that by which one resolves doubts and settles hesitation; hence when there is doubt, one divines by yarrow." The character is formed from "bamboo" [竹] and "shaman" [巫]. Divining by yarrow involves sorting the yarrow stalks to obtain hexagrams, splitting bamboo to make the lines; therefore the character is formed from "bamboo." 揲 has two fanqie: 食列 [shé] and 余列 [yè]).
