Distress and vexation (煩[女*(巢-果+(一/凶))]: the second character is pronounced nu-lao [nǎo]; the Kaosheng says: '[女*(巢-果+(一/凶))] means anxiety and vexation; women often have distress and resentment.' Hence the Shuowen jiezi states: 'To feel pain and resentment; formed with [the semantic classifier] nǚ (woman) and the abbreviated zāi as its phonetic component.' The treatise writes it as 惱, which is also acceptable).
