繼嗣（上雞藝反王弼注周易云繼謂不絕也賈逵注國語云繼餘也爾雅繼紹也說文續也從糸從㡭㡭亦聲或作㡭㡭音絕下詞恣反孔注尚書嗣亦繼也毛詩箋云嗣續也說文侯嗣國也從口從冊司聲或作孠古字也冊音[竺-二+(秉-千)]也）。

Succeed and inherit (繼嗣: the upper character has the fanqie jī + yì. Wang Bi's commentary on the Zhouyi says: '繼 means not broken off.' Jia Kui's commentary on the Guoyu says: '繼 means remaining.' The Erya says: '繼 means to carry on.' The Shuowen says: 'To continue; derived from 糸 [silk] and 㡭 [continue], with 㡭 also phonetic'; it is also written as 㡭; 㡭 has the sound jué. The lower character has the fanqie cí + zì. Kong's commentary on the Shangshu says: '嗣 also means to succeed.' The Maoshi jian says: '嗣 means to continue.' The Shuowen says: 'A feudal lord inheriting a state; derived from 口 [mouth] and 冊 [bamboo slip document], with 司 [sī] phonetic'; it is also written as 孠, which is an ancient graph; 冊 has the sound of [竺-二+(秉-千)]).
