羂索（上㳙兖反桂菀珠藂云以繩繞繫取物謂之羂字統作罥云施繩於道也從冈肙聲下桑各反顧野王云糺繩曰索說文草木有莖葉可以為繩索也從糸從市）。

Snare and cord (羂索: the first character *fanqie* 㳙 + 兖. The *Guiyuan zhucong* says: “To encircle and bind an object with a cord to capture it is called 羂.” The *Zitong* writes it as 罥, saying: “To place a cord on a path; composed of 冈 with 肙 as phonetic.” The second character is *fanqie* 桑 + 各. Gu Yewang says: “Twisted cord is called 索.” *Shuowen jiezi* says: “Plants whose stems and leaves can be made into ropes and cords; composed of 糸 [‘silk’] and 巾 [‘cloth’]”).
