Embryo and membrane (胎膜: the upper character [胎] is pronounced dai-lai fan; the Guangya says: "At three months it is called an embryo." Gu Yewang says: "Not yet born." The Shuowen says: "A woman's pregnancy at two months; it takes 肉 ('flesh') as semantic and 台 as phonetic." The lower character [膜] is pronounced mang-bo fan; the Shuowen says: "The membrane between the flesh; it takes 肉 ('flesh') as semantic and 莫 as phonetic").
