涉暗（常葉反韻英云涉歷也考聲云涉渡水也說文云塗行水也從水從步會意字也下烏紺反賈逵注國語云日無光日暗）。

Traversing darkness (she'an 涉暗: [the upper word is pronounced with the fanqie] chang + ye [she]. The Yunying says: 'She 涉 means to undergo or pass through.' The Kaosheng says: 'She means to wade across water.' The Shuowen says: 'Walking through water on foot; it is categorized under water 水 and steps 步, an associative compound.' The lower word is [pronounced with the fanqie] wu + gan [an]. Jia Kui's commentary on the Guoyu says: 'When the sun lacks light, it is called an 暗.').
