霑彼（輒廉反韓詩云霑溺也考聲云小濕也尸執反禮記孔子曰雨霑服失容顧野王云霑濡耳珠反也文字集略作沾略也說文霑𩃵也音染從雨沾聲也）。

霑彼 ("moistening those"): The character has the fanqie reading [ʈɕ- + -jɛm = zhān] (輒廉反). The Han Shi says: "霑 means soaked." The Kaosheng says: "Slightly moistened (濕, fanqie 尸執反)." The Liji states that Confucius said: "Rain soaked my clothes and I lost my composure." Gu Yewang says: "霑 means soaked (濡, fanqie 耳珠反)." The Wenzi jilüe writes it in the abbreviated form 沾. The Shuowen says: "霑 means 𩃵 (pronounced rǎn). It is formed with the radical 雨 ('rain') and 沾 as phonetic."
