挑目（體遙反韻詮云挑撥也考聲云挑抉縈悅反字書云從扌音手兆聲也經中或有從木作桃徒刀反非也或從刀亦作𠛪亦通用）。

挑目 ("to gouge out eyes"): The character has the fanqie reading [tʰ- + -ieu = tiāo] (體遙反). The Yunquan says: "挑 means to poke out." The Kaosheng says: "挑 means to gouge out (抉, fanqie 縈悅反)." The Zishu says: "It is formed with the radical 扌 (pronounced shǒu, 'hand') and 兆 as phonetic." In the sūtra text, some write it with the radical 木 as 桃 (fanqie 徒刀反), which is incorrect; or with the radical 刀 as 𠛪, which is also commonly used.
