White egret (白鷺: fanqie: l[ái] + [g]ù. The white egret is a water bird; its head, wings, and back all have long plumage. East of the Yangtze they take them to make plumes. The Lisao says: 'White egrets flutter'; [flutter] is pronounced with the fanqie s[ū] + [l]éi).
