Yindu [India] (yu-zhen fan; the lower character tu-gu fan. Also called Tianzhu, Shendu, or Xiandou; these are all erroneous. The correct form is Yindu. "Yindu" means the moon. The moon has a thousand names; this is one designation. Indeed, in that land sages and worthies have successively awakened living beings, just as the moon shines down; hence it is named so. Another explanation says: Xiandou originally was Indrabhavana, which means "Lord's Place"; "Lord" refers to Śakra Devendra. Because the Lord of Heaven protects it, it has long been known by this name).
